Paragliding pilot dies after tragic accident near Stellenbosch Mountain
A South African paragliding pilot has tragically passed away following an accident on the foothills of Stellenbosch Mountain.
A 54-year old South African paragliding pilot was conducting a solo recreational flight when he was involved in an accident on the foothills of Stellenbosch Mountain.
The incident took place on Saturday, 8 February at approximately 12:30.
Investigation underway
He was taken by ER24 ambulance to Stellenbosch Mediclinic, and then airlifted on Sunday to Chris Barnard Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
The Accident and Incident Investigation Division (AIID) has been notified.
The South African Hang-gliding and Paragliding Association (SAHPA) will be appointing an accident investigator to conduct an investigation.
