The ASUS ROG Mothership price confirmed but it’s ‘temporarily sold out’
The latest gaming laptop from ASUS is pushing the boundaries when it comes to power and design.
Update 14 October 2019: We’ve been waiting since January and the ASUS ROG Mothership has finally arrived, hefty price tag included. But you might just need to wait if you were planning on getting the ROG.
The beast of a gaming laptop is listed for $6 499.99 on ASUS, or R96Β 200, if you’re unfortunate enough to be paying with South African Rands. (A $0.068 exchange rate, at the time of publishing.)
Special add-on items β the ASUS ROG Sheath Extra-Large Gaming Mouse Pad and ASUS ROG Centurion Surround Sound Gaming Headset β are also “temporarily sold out”.
Update 4 July 2019: Asus announced new additions for their 2019 ROG lineup and we have good news for anyone who can’t wait to own a ROG Mothership. The launch is expected to happen soon.
Everybody who’s seen the model so far β and not even the full-fledged laptop yet mind you, just the engineering sample β has nothing but praise for it. Money Control described it as:
“An innovative marvel, something that has never been done before in a gaming laptop.”
We’re still waiting for confirmation on a release date. It was set to launch in June. But then ROG Malaysia confirmed at a recent event that the Mothership is expected to arrive (in Malaysia) mid-July.
So, now the waiting game continues. Malaysian gamers were informed that it will be released for about RM27 000 (Malaysian Ringgit). That works out to just over R90 000.
ROG Mothership GZ700
The ROG Mothership GZ700 is looking to redefine the desktop replacement laptop by ignoring the status quo and approaching the problem of creating a powerful but good looking and portable gaming machine with fresh eyes.
The Mothership is everything you would expect from a modern gaming laptop. It is powered by an Intel Core i9 and comes equipped with the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card.
Storage is handled by three SSDs and can support up to 64Gb of DDR4 memory.

All of that is the standard stuff we’ve come to expect from a proper gaming laptop. However, the Republic of Gaming Mothership is not a standard laptop.
Itβs more like a 17.3 inch tablet with a detachable keyboard that will run pretty much any game you want without dropping a frame. The Mothership has a stand that allows the screen to remain upright on its own.
The keyboard can either be used as a standard laptop or detached and used as a wireless low latency keyboard. Oh, the possibilities.
The Mothership is also thinner than most of the other gaming laptops in the Republic of Gaming range. This is because the detachable design allows the Mothership to be air cooled. Most ROG models have been water cooled.
Gaming laptops are extraordinary machines that are matched by exceptional prices and weight. The air cooling means that the Mothership is not as heavy as some other models.
However, we expect this laptop will cost you about the same as the deposit on a not-so-small apartment. The Asus ROG Zephyrus pales in comparison to the Mothership. And that sells for about R50 000, so best start saving up!
Asus ROG Mothership GZ700 Release date
According to the offical ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) announcement in January 2019, the ASUS ROG Mothership GZ700 will be available in Q2 2019.
As it is now early Q2, let’s hope we don’t have to wait until the every end of Q2 or Q3 even.
Update: According to a statement by Asus, the ROG Mothership is expected to debut by the end of June.
