Transparency crucial in attracting Benni McCarthy to the Kenya job
Benni McCarthy has highlighted the transparency he was afforded as the most significant factor in his decision to accept the head coach position for Kenya.

Benni McCarthy was unveiled as the new head coach of the Kenya national team earlier this week. This surprised many, as this is not the blockbuster role he would have been expected to assume.
Benni McCarthy has since provided insights into what persuaded him to accept the role of head coach for the Kenya national team.

TRANSPARENCY ALLURED BENNI MCCARTHY
The President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Hussein Mohammed, provided Benni McCarthy with a frank and transparent evaluation of their football’s current state and aspirations for the future.
“Transparency. They are a new regime that is very honest and open,” the newly appointed Kenya national team coach explained.
“In Africa, as a South African, I had dealt with the South African national team and played in South Africa. It has always been Africa’s biggest challenge where there is no transparency.”
“I think the president [Hussein Mohammed] and the deputy [Doris Petra] assured me that it’s not going to be roses because it’s not. That I accept and I want to also help them. I want to make the football team the best that Africa has ever seen. If we can fix the football team, the football Federation will also prosper.”
“It’s been an absolute privilege and pleasure for me to be here in Kenya. I am delighted, and I really can’t wait to start our new journey. Making Kenya one of the powerhouses in African football,” Benni McCarthy added.
“The potential that this Kenyan national team has, and you look at how well other national teams are doing with half the talent that is here in Kenya. With the right leaders in charge, the right coaches, the right mentality and the right work ethic, we can get this team to greater heights.” He boldly claimed.
Despite his obvious sentiments, Kenya is not a powerhouse in African football. According to the latest FIFA rankings, Kenya is placed 25th in Africa and 108th in the world.
Is this the sort of role suitable for Benni McCarthy?
