Why Monnapule Saleng is missing in action? Riveiro responds
Monnapule Saleng has not kicked a ball for Orlando Pirates since the beginning of December. Will he feature this Satirday?
Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng hasn’t featured for the club since the beginning of December.
The 26-year-old attacker has played just three league matches this season, scoring twice. He was one of the club’s best performers during the MTN8 when the Buccaneers claimed their third successive title.
Monnapule Saleng last featured for Pirates during their match against Al Ahly in Group C of the Caf Champions League on 7 December at the Orlando Stadium. The winger hasn’t played a game since then but Riveiro has not given much details on why his star has not featured recently.
With the Buccaneers playing State d’Abidjan, the Spaniard could not state whether Saleng will feature or not.
“Obviously, I’m not going to tell you 24 hours before the match who’s available and who’s not,” he told the media.
“First, because we still have a training session. Once we finish the training, we will know who is available and who is not.
Monnapule Saleng has not played in a month
“I think you’ll probably understand that I’m not going to say anything about who’s going to be in the 20 or the starting XI,” Riveiro added.
“Or who is not gonna be [in] tomorrow? Because those are small things that also play in the game.
“Our opponent would like to know who’s going to play. Our opponents are not going to have access to that information, so I’m not going to tell you who is in or who is out. I’m sure that you can understand,” he concluded.
It remains to be seen if Monnapule Saleng will kick the ball on Saturday. In previous matches, the club said “personal reasons” was why the star was missing in action. So far, Saleng has scored five goals in 13 matches across all competitions.
