Why Basadien and Appollis will likely join Pirates and not Chiefs
Orlando Pirates could break Kaizer Chiefs’ hearts by signing both Oswin Appollis and Fawaaz Basadien next season.
Orlando Pirates are reportedly in the lead to sign Kaizer Chiefs targets Oswin Appollis and Fawaaz Basadien. The two Bafana Bafana players are currently with Polokwane City and Stellenbosch FC, respectively.
Kaizer Chiefs had tabled an offer for Basadien last year but fell short. Instead, the Soweto giants decided to sign Bradley Cross from Golden Arrows to strengthen their left side in defense.
Their rivals, Pirates, are looking to acquire both Basadien and Appollis next season. Given the teams’ progress and current form, the duo could be tempted to join the Sea Robbers. Basadien’s former teammate, Deano van Rooyen, is thriving at Pirates and could potentially persuade him to make the move.
Basadien and Appollis can take Pirates to the next level
On the other hand, Appollis has played alongside several Pirates stars on the national team. While the 23-year-old aspires to play in Europe, joining Pirates could serve as a good stepping stone for his career.
Orlando Pirates legend Moeneeb Josephs feels Appollis and Basadien can improve the Buccaneers next season.
If you look at Appollis and Basadien, I think they can be quality signings for Orlando Pirates, which is competing on the African continent [CAF Champions League],” he said on the Soccer Beat podcast this week.
“If you’re going to compete at that level, you need depth, a player like Basadien who’s been consistent throughout this season. So I think he’ll be a great signing and add something to the team, he has qualities, can take set pieces, and has the engine to go up and down the flank.”
Pirates could be in need of a left-back and right winger next season, which could lure both Appollis and Basadien into signing for the Soweto giants.
