Underfire Kaizer Chiefs striker looking at ‘other options’

Kaizer Chiefs could release one striker by the end of the season. Amakhosi have often struggled for goals this season.

Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro could leave the club at the end of the current season.

The 32-year-old has had an average season despite a good start to the 2024/25 Betway Premiership. Having scored three times in the opening five matches of the season for Amakhosi, Ranga lost form and was heavily criticised by supporters soon after.

After 21 matches across all competitions, the Kaizer Chiefs have netted just five times. This is a poor return from a man who netted 17 goals in 30 appearances for Marumo Gallants in 2023.

His lack of goals has been met with a chorus of booes from Amakhosi supporters, especially this season. Soccer Laduma indicated that the ex-Gallants hitman could be on his way out of the club.

“Look, when he joined the club, he had high hopes about making progress, because he had been top of his game. He was confident that he would do well. But things haven’t quite worked out for him and his love-hate relationship with the fans hasn’t helped. At this point, he knows that things aren’t looking great,” a source told the publication.

“His camp is handling the situation (contract talks). They won’t be short of options. Ranga is a very good player with a high work rate. He was on the radar of many clubs before joining Kaizer Chiefs, and he may look into that in assessing his options,” the source added.

Can Ranga bounce back?

Chivaviro has eight matches remaining to fight for his future. The striker’s contract runs until the end of June and if Nasreddine Nabi feels he’s not worth keeping, he might leave Kaizer Chiefs in the next three months. The club has already acquired the services of striker Tashreeq Morris in the January transfer window.

Should Chiefs keep Ranga?
