Mamelodi Sundowns are starting to move differently. No less than six players have left Kabo Yellow in January.

THEMBINKOSI LORCH AND CO. LEAVE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Remember what coach Miguel Cardoso said in December? “Sundowns squad is too big, I want to offload some players, I don’t like working with too many players,” the Portuguese told journalists in a press conference. “We have to worry about the careers of the players. I don’t like working with oversize squad. I prefer to work with a squad of 24 plus keepers would be enough, or 22 with goalkeepers would be enough. We have to worry about the careers of the players, in the moment we’re discussing letting some players go out but we need to find the right places to send them, sometimes they [the players] say it’s not the best for me,” the Sundowns mentor added.

About four weeks later, the club has released six players on loan and while two left on a permanent deal.

Rushine De Reuck joined Maccabi Petah Tikva in Isreal on loan. Lebisa Nku joined Stellenbosch on a permanent deal. Lebohang Maboe moved to SuperSport United on loan. Thembinkosi Lorch signed a loan deal with Wydad Casablanca in Morocco. Sphelele Mkhulise joined CR Belouizdad in Algeria on loan, while Erwin Saavedra is yet to find a new club.

LEBO MOTHIBA NOT READY

Abafana Ba Style are far from making a decision on Lebo Mothiba. Following his departure from Strasbourg in France, the 28-year-old striker is trying his luck at Bafana Ba’Style. According to coach Cardoso, the Johannesburg-born attacker is not yet fit to sign or feature for Sundowns. “Let me make it clear, Lebo Mothiba will not help the team because he’s not in good condition,” Cardoso told journalists at a press conference.

“He comes from a long period of injury. So, we should not even think about him helping the team in the moment, he’s not in that process. He’s working with us but it’s a medium, long-term plan for him. He’s one year without playing after he went through big surgery.

“And he’s working on his condition, still many questions on the process. He’s a wonderful person and a wonderful player but everybody, even ourselves, we cannot put pressure on him,” the Sundowns tactician added.
