Sundowns face foreign quota headache as South American duo lands!

Sundowns will have to sacrifice at least two of their current five foreign internationals in order to accommodate their South American duo.

Mamelodi Sundowns are facing a foreign quota conundrum following the arrival of their South American duo.

According to iDiski Times, both Matias Esquivel and Lucas Suarez have landed safely in South Africa.

Esquivel spent the past six months on loan at Talleres de Córdoba where he played alongside centre-back Suarez.

Suarez is on the verge of joining Sundowns subject to medical tests and acquisition of the necessary paperwork.

This would bring the number of foreign internationals at Sundowns to eight if one counts Abubabeker Nasir.

Nasir was previously confirmed to have joined SuperSport United on loan but Gavin Hunt said he hasn’t seen him for two weeks.

Now, if SuperSport United were to abandon their intentions to use him given his latest antics, Nasir will have to go back to Sundowns.

SUNDOWNS’ FOREIGN QUOTA CONUNDRUM

Now, as things stand, Sundowns have five registered foreign internationals on their books.

And they are Divine Lunga (Zimbabwe), Marcelo Allende (Chile), Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Arthur Sales (both Brazil) and Erwin Saavedra (Bolivia).

This means should Sundowns wish to register both Esquivel and Suarez, they will then have to de-register two foreign internationals from the current squad.

As the present moment, no foreign international has been linked with a possible exit from Chloorkop.

And the arrival of the South American duo means there is still a lot of work to do by both the technical team and the Sundowns hierarchy.

But both Sales and Saavedra have received huge criticism from a section of Sundowns fans since the start of the season.
