Stellenbosch FC star makes Kaizer Chiefs transfer request

Stellenbosch FC have already lost two quality players in Iqraam Rayners and Deano van Rooyen to Sundowns and Pirates respectively.

Stellenbosch FC star Fawaaz Basadien has made a transfer request to Steve Barker and management that he wants to join Kaizer Chiefs.

This is according to Basadien’s agent Basia Michaels who told SABC Sport that his client is eager to join Amakhosi this term.

According to Michaels, Basadien explained to his employers that playing for Chiefs is an opportunity he wants to pursue.

Chiefs submitted a bid for Basadien but their offer was rejected by Stellies, and they then switched focus to other players.

Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu is a reported target for Chiefs but the Durban-based side is reluctant to sell him.

As things stand, Chiefs have two new left-backs in Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley, and it’s unclear if they still keen on Basadien.

Should Basadien’s wish be granted, it would be the second time he returns to Gauteng after a short stint with Moroka Swallows.

Michaels feels it would have been fair for Stellies to consider Amakhosi’s bid for Basadien given that they accepted offers for Iqraam Rayners and Deano van Rooyen from Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates respectively.

“But life isn’t fair unfortunately and also timing is everything. However, this is  something that we are still actively pursuing although time might not be on our side, but we are working at it,” said Michaels.

“Fawaaz has let the coach [Barker] and the Stellies management know that this is an opportunity he wants to pursue. I can’t speak about the happiness of staying – we have to cross that bridge, if we unfortunately get there, but we can all admit that Fawaaz has been a consummate professional scoring two goals in two games,” she added.

STELLIES SIGN DISCARDED SUNDOWNS DEFENDER

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC have snapped up discarded Mamelodi Sundowns defender Brian Onyago for the current campaign.

This was confirmed by coach Steve Barker in an interview with Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000 as per iDiski Times.

According to Barker, there are many reasons why he felt Onyango was needed by Stellies, and key was his experience.

Having won the league title with Sundowns on four occasions, Barker believes Stellies needed that type of a player in his squad.

Furthermore, he expects the Kenya international to guide the younger players in the current squad.

For Stellies, Onyango’s acquisition is a win given that they paid no cent to bring him on board.

The lanky defender was released by Sundowns at the end of last season after being deemed surplus to requirements.

His contribution last term, though, was little to none as game time became increasingly hard to come by.

Onyango featured 66 times across all competitions and scored twice during his stint with the Brazilians as per Transfermarkt.
