Stellenbosch FC will represent South Africa in the CAF competition next season.

That much was confirmed over the weekend, despite the Winelands side’s shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Swallows on Saturday.

While Stellies will be playing in Africa next season, it remains to be seen in which tournament.

Champions Mamelodi Sundowns will represent Mzansi in the CAF Champions League, as will the team which finishes second in the standings.

The third-placed finisher will enter the CAF Confederations Cup.

As things stand, with just two matches remaining in the 2023/2024 DStv Premiership season, Stellenbosch FC are in second place in the log and cannot finish lower than third overall.

Stellenbosch FC’s final two DStv Premiership fixtures are:

Saturday, 18 May v Mamelodi Sundowns (H) – 15:00

Saturday, 25 May v Richards Bay (A) – 15:00

A special shout-out must go to Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker who season after season has to deal with players departing the club having been snapped up by bigger sides up north.

Stellenbosch FC are the 22nd different PSL club to represent South Africa in continental football.

Can you name the other 21 sides?

Meanwhile, in another feather in their cap, Stellenbosch FC defended their DStv Diski Challenge title over the weekend.

Finally, it’s all but confirmed that Orlando Pirates will also qualify for Africa next season, although it’s possible that if TS Galaxy win their final three matches and the Buccaneers lose their last two fixtures, then TS Galaxy would pip the Soweto giants to that final third CAF spot.

In addition, The Rockets would also need to overturn the Orlando Pirates’ vastly superior goal differential.

Intriguingly, TS Galaxy and Orlando Pirates will clash in a do-or-die fixture at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday, 18 May at 15:00.
