Thulani Serero, the former Bafana Bafana midfielder, has been spotted training with Cape Town City, sparking speculation about a possible return to the South African top flight. After nearly 13 years abroad, the 34-year-old is back home following his stint in the UAE Pro League.
Cape Town City yet to decide on Serero’s Future
The former Ajax Cape Town playmaker last played for Khor Fakkan, where he made 21 appearances and scored a single goal during the 2023/2024 season. Now, he finds himself training with Cape Town City, but club chairman John Comitis remains tight-lipped about any potential deal.
“He is in Cape Town. He is training with our team. We haven’t discussed anything (about signing),” Comitis said as quoted by Kick Off.
While the club remains non-committal, an inside source suggests that discussions have already taken place between Serero’s representatives and City’s management. If all goes well, an official announcement could be imminent, making him the club’s latest marquee signing.

Nicknamed ‘Cream’ in local football circles, Serero is widely regarded as one of South Africa’s finest midfielders. Before leaving for Europe, he dominated the PSL, winning multiple awards in 2011, including:
