Rulani Mokwena isn’t done harming Kaizer Chiefs. He’s made a third offer for one of their backup striker options.

Rulani wants Young Africans star Mzise

Rulani Mokwena is confident that his side Wydad Casablanca can convince Yanga SC to sell their 20-year-old striker Clement Mzise. The former Sundowns boss has already sealed a deal for Cassius Mailula from Toronto FC. He knows Mailula very well, of course, after the pair excelled together for the Brazilians.

Mzise was the backup option for Mayele

After a long and fruitless pursuit of 30-year-old Congolese marksman Fiston Mayele, it seems as though Chiefs identified a younger alternative. 20-year-old Tanzania and Yanga striker Clement Mzise has a solitary cap for his country. He also has significantly lower wage demands than the coveted Mayele, not to mention he’d command a transfer fee that’s a fraction of Mayele’s. Khanyisa Mayo was an option but he sealed an R18 million move to Algeria. Meanwhile, rumours of a move for legendary Kenyan Michael Olunga feel like a pipe dream.

Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2023-2024 league campaign in tenth position, their worst placing in the history of the DStv Premiership. Their last league title came back in 2015, their most recent piece of major silverware.
