AmaZulu FC defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has expressed confusion as to why senior players have been forsaken in the Premier Soccer League lately.

Mphahlele was himself ditched by Kaizer Chiefs when his contract ended in June with the club looking to bring in new blood.

However, ‘Rama’ was fortunate enough not to stay clubless for long as Usuthu added him to Brandon Truter’s roster at the start of the current season.

Mphahlele says the rejection of senior players lowers the standard of the DStv Premiership.

MPHAHLELE ON SENIOR PLAYERS’ REJECTION

“It’s the first time ever in the PSL where you find players like Happy [Jele], you look at the likes of Daniel Akpeyi, good players that don’t have teams, I don’t know like I’ve been trying to think about it and trying to pin it to something but I don’t know what’s happening,” Mphahlele told media at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park on Monday.

“I don’t know whether it’s teams trying to cut budgets, I don’t know whether it’s because of the MDC that is feeding the players so many players, there’s players coming…like I have been trying to RAM my mind around this issue but I don’t know because these are good players.

“You know the likes of Bernard [Parker] was struggling to find a team, so I don’t know man.

“I think you guys [media] are in that space, you can actually try and figure out what’s happening.

“If you have these quality players not having jobs and then it kind of lowers the standard of the league a little bit.”
