R15 million Sundowns investment fails, star unlikely to return?
Sometimes in football, it simply doesn’t work out and Mamelodi Sundowns now look set to part ways with a highly talented star.

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Erwin Saavedra is set to leave the club after a difficult three-year spell in Mzansi.
Mamelodi Sundowns paid a reported R15 million for him back in 2022 however, the attacker made just 13 appearances for the club due to persistent injury issues as well as competition for minutes.
Now, the Bolivian attacker has returned home, and reports suggest he’s likely not to return to the club.
Saavedra set for Mamelodi Sundowns exit
“It hasn’t worked out for Erwin and I don’t see him playing for Mamelodi Sundowns again. He’s back in Bolivia for the birth of his child but there’s a possibility that he might not come back here because there is interest from clubs in his country,” an insider told Citizen.
“You saw how the media was already waiting for him at the airport when he arrived from South Africa because he’s a big player on that side.
“Competition is tough at Downs and injuries have not helped him too in his time in South Africa. Sundowns have now signed Jayden (Adams) so I doubt that Erwin will be needed because they have enough cover in his position.”
In other news, Mamelodi Sundowns winger Lesiba Nku was strongly linked with an exit from the club.
Downs had allegedly reached an agreement with rival club Stellenbosch over the transfer of Nku.
New reports however suggest Nku failed to agree personal terms with the Cape outfit, and the deal is now off.
