PSL transfer news: Mofokeng, Mayo, Maswanganyi, Matuludi

It looks like there will be a big shake-up in the PSL following the January transfer window with many big names rumoured to leave.

The PSL transfer window is fast approaching.

Until the end of the season, clubs, from Africa to Europe, have January to sign players, but that doesn’t mean they can’t negotiate beforehand.

Months before a transfer window your favourite club has probably chatted to several players, ensuring personal terms are met before approaching the targets club – the PSL is no different.

Transfer rumours:

  • Spanish giants Barcelona is reportedly monitoring Orlando Pirates’ Relehobile Mofokeng, who is also attracting attention from Glasgow Rangers and RB Salzburg. The 20-year-old PSL winger is unlikely to move in January but a transfer during the offseason isn’t off the cards.
  • Khanyisa Mayo, who moved to CR Belouizdad over the winter, has mentioned that he would love to follow in his father’s footsteps by joining Kaizer Chiefs later down the line.
  • Patrick Maswanganyi is believed to be wanting a move to Europe. The 26-year-old spent most of his academy day’s in Portugal, meaning a move to Liga Portugal is likely.
  • Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are battling for the services of Thabang Matuludi – the Sea Robbers are favourites to land the Polokwane City right-back.

More on the Mofokeng and Maswanganyi situation

“There have been enquiries from Barcelona on Relebohile Mofokeng,” a Siya source confirmed.

Before adding that, “the boy has been monitored by the coaches of the Barcelona B team with interest. They have been following him and made approaches with some of their contacts in the PSL, including certain coaches they know closely, asking about the player.

“He is a player with potential to play in some of the top leagues in Europe and the feedback has been positive on the enquires made.”

Regarding Maswanganyi, he is believed to be wanting out of the PSL after his former mentor, Farouk Khan, said, “I can tell you now Tito is ready for Europe.”

Before adding that “even himself as a player, he really wants to play there. You know if Pirates can allow him to go then it won’t benefit only Pirates from the sale but also the player himself and the country. He could have stayed longer in Portugal but he was impatient that time,

“You know many players from Brazil, Argentina, and most other African countries use Portugal as a springboard to bigger leagues in Europe and he could have been patient then things could have worked out for him that time. But nothing is lost. He can still go now and make it big. He is ready for Europe.”
