Kaizer Chiefs have beefed up their squad during the current transfer window, with more signings expected.

So far, Chiefs have signed seven players and at least two more have been suggested to complete the window.

Chiefs had among the worst defensive records last season, making their 10th place finish no surprise. Now in order to change their fortunes this season, they have made five defensive signings. They have sought to sort out their problems on the left side of defence with Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley and Bradley Cross. Sam joining from arch rivals Orlando Pirates, while Dortley signed from Cape Town Spurs with Cross coming from Golden Arrows.

Chiefs signed Ntwari

Chiefs also signed right-sided centre-back Inacio Miguel from Petro de Luanda from his native Angola. They also added to their goalkeeper ranks, signing Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy. Before settling for the Rwandan shot-stopper, Amakhosi were heavily linked with Nigerian number one Stanley Nwabali. Pirates were also rumoured to have been close to signing the keeper.

Now according to Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi, they wanted to sell Nwabali to Chiefs.

“It was never about the price, there were two teams who were interested, one of them was AmaZulu, but they were offering peanuts. There were talks that we had with Kaizer Chiefs before the end of the season. But then we saw Kaizer Chiefs signing another goalkeeper. For Kaizer Chiefs, we were even gonna give them, and the price was not even that high. We were more looking at the interest of the player you know, he was going to play for a big club. So we weighed options, and we thought him leaving Chippa for AmaZulu wouldn’t be in his best interest, so he would rather stay with Chippa if Kaizer Chiefs is no longer there.” Said Mpengesi to KickOff.com

Offered Nwabali for less!

Mpengesi went on further to state Chippa would’ve charged Chiefs less than what Galaxy got for Ntwari.

“But the deal that we were looking for was at Kaizer Chiefs, the reported price of R40 million. That’s nonsense. That thing was never there. That’s a lie. I am told they paid R8 million for the other goalkeeper, but I can guarantee we would have charged them less.” Said Mpengesi.

Chiefs fans, do you feel like the club made the right decision signing Ntwari instead? Or would you have rather preferred Nwabali? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
