Orlando Pirates to get paid R100 million this season?

Orlando Pirates are on track to claim over R100 million in prize money this season. So far the Buccaneers have made close to R30m.

Orlando Pirates could earn R100 million by the end of the season if they successfully claim the CAF Champions League title.

The team has already secured R10 million from winning the MTN8 title earlier this season. After missing out on the Carling Knockout Cup, the Buccaneers are now focused on retaining the Nedbank Cup and increasing their tally of domestic titles. If Coach Jose Riveiro manages to win the Nedbank Cup, the team will receive an additional R7 million on top of the R10 million from the MTN8.

So how can Orlando Pirates secure the R100 million?

The key to significant earnings this season lies in winning the CAF Champions League. If they succeed, they will receive an impressive $4 million, equivalent to approximately R74.4 million in South African rand. The Buccaneers last won this competition in 1995 and came close to clinching it again in 2013, only to lose in the final to Al Ahly.

Currently, the Pirates are in the quarter-finals, which guarantees them $900,000 (about R16.7 million). Thus far, the team has collected around R27 million this season, and it’s likely that they will earn even more by the end of the season. If Orlando Pirates win both the CAF Champions League and the Nedbank Cup, they would accumulate approximately R81 million, which would be added to the R10 million won in the MTN8.

With the team expected to finish either first or second, another R10 million is guaranteed. In summary, for Orlando Pirates to achieve R100 million, they must win both the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League this season.
