Orlando Pirates star player Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi made headlines for the wrong reasons this past weekend despite his side winning 3-1 against SuperSport United in the MTN8 quarter-final.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder put on a stellar performance against his former team, but his actions on the field overshadowed his game. Tito was seen several times having heated confrontations with United players, including an incident where he elbowed Gape Moralo.

Many fans believe the Pirates playmaker should have been sent off for his actions. Orlando Pirates legend Andies Sebola told FARPost that Tito Maswanganyi needs to fix his attitude if he wants to be a big star.

“He must control his words and attitude. Exchanging words with the [United]assistant coach [Andre Arendse] of the opponents and hitting the opponent with an elbow, that was a red card if the referee saw it,” he told the publication.

“If he wants to be a big player for Pirates he has to control his attitude and emotions because he’s not a big player for Pirates yet. He hasn’t arrived there but otherwise, he’s a good player,” Sebola said.

Since arriving at Orlando Pirates last year, Tito Maswanganyi has been one of the Buccaneers’ best players. The 26-year-old attacker scored 10 goals and provided a further 12 assists during his debut season with the Sea Robbers.

Following Pirates’ 3-1 win over Matsatsantsa on Saturday, fans took to social media to condemn Tito’s actions.

@Bilcane wrote this on X: “This guy is not a player, he is very ill-disciplined.”

@MaupaCanny wrote: “Very dirty player. Some of his actions don’t show that he is playing professional football.”

Having impressed with Orlando Pirates, Maswanganyi received a Bafana Bafana call-up in June.

Did Tito deserve a straight red?
