Orlando Pirates have sanctioned two outgoings already this transfer window, as they look to restructure their squad in 2025.

Although linked with some signings, it has been players offloaded that has dominated the window for Pirates.

Otladisa left Pirates on loan

Even before the month of January, Pirates announced the two exits of utility star Sandile Mthethwa and attacker Katlego Otladisa. The two often cut frustrated figures on the grandstands at the Orlando Stadium as they failed to crack coach Jose Riveiro’s match day squads. In the end, it was no surprise when the club sanctioned their departures ahead of the transfer window.

Mthethwa was released on a free and soon joined AmaZulu FC. But before then, Pirates had announced that Otladisa will spend the rest of the season at Sekhukhune United. Now having played a few games for Babina Noko, the 29-year-old seems to have impressed. According to Soccer-Laduma, they would like to engage with the Buccaneers about keeping him permanently.

Sekhukhune want him permanently

“You know it’s not the first time that a club (Sekhukhune) has been wanting to sign Katlego (Otladisa). Even before he joined Pirates they had inquired about him at Marumo Gallants but things did not work out and he joined Pirates. So now they want to make this loan move permanently at the end of the season. But it will all depend on the talks between the two teams as his contract at Pirates runs until June 2026. So that means they have to buy him from them to get him permanently,” said the source.

A second source says that Otladisa is happy to leave Pirates for Sekhukhune.

Player also keen for the move

“Sometimes money is not everything to a player. Yes, money is important but you don’t enjoy it if you are not playing so the player (Otladisa) himself would also want to play regularly because it’s not a guarantee that when he goes back to Pirates next season that he will start playing regularly. So, you know it’s all up to Pirates at the end of the day as he is still their player,” said the source.

Seeing as though Otladisa will be turning 30 this year what should he do? Should he spend the last few years of his career sacrificing money for regular football? Or should he go back and fight for his Pirates dream? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
