Orlando Pirates maverick playmaker Patrick Maswanganyi has named the player he always wanted to emulate growing up.

Maswanganyi loves Teko Modise, but who doesn’t?

Speaking to SuperSport TV after the Pirates’ routine 3-0 win over Polokwane, Patrick Maswanganyi shared how the great Teko Modise inspired him. Pirates won courtesy of a goal from Monnapule Saleng and a brace from super-sub Evidence Makgopa.

“I think for me, it will be Teko Modise,” Maswanganyi told Thomas Mlambo. “I grew up watching him. The way he played and the way he dressed. He was a key point in my career.

“I always wanted to be like him, I tried to copy him but we’re different people. I have to be myself sometimes. He played a big role in my life. I had to adjust and try to be like him.”

Meanwhile, here are the Pirates players and their numbers for the 2024-2025 domestic league campaign. Any name with an asterisk denotes an undecided squad number. Jose Riveiro’s side have started the new campaign perfectly with a 2-1 win over Chippa and a routine 3-0 success over Polokwane. Next up they travel to Richards Bay on Sunday, 29 September at King Zwelithini Stadium with kickoff at 15:00. Then they meet Stellies in the MTN8 final on Saturday 05 October at Moses Mabhida.
