Orlando Pirates came up trumps in their latest CAF Champions League outing, cementing them on top of Group C and into the quarter-finals.

They’re experiencing similar success in the Betway Premiership, however, do not have sole control of the log, lagging three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns following a costly defeat to the resurgent Cape Town City.

With silverware up for grabs in the coming months there lack a signings in the January transfer window comes as a surprise amid a Brazilian spending spree with the likes of Jayden Adam’s joining the Pretoria outfit.

What’s happening with the Appollis deal?

Polokwane winger Oswin Appollis has both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs gunning for his signature, however, neither appear likely to sign the 23-year-old this January.

“It won’t be easy for them [Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates] in January,” KickOff reported.

“A deal in January leaves the club little chance to find a replacement. So, there is already that. Then if it’s a local team, then that’s another problem, you see. But it’s football, anything happens, but it would be crazy money for him now.”

Saleng up for grabs?

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng hasn’t featured since November 5 following a scintillating start to the season, which saw him play a pivotal role in the Buccaneers MTN8 Cup success, scoring in the final to put the Sea Robbers back in contention following a 12th-minute Lehlohonolo Mojela goal for the Maroons.

It remains vague why Saleng continues to be left out of the squad, but it appears Pirates are willing to let the 26-year-old leave – for R15 million – if he wishes to.

“Saleng has also been accused of being a divisive figure with his punctuality in the weeks leading up to his return to the (Pirates) XI when they faced Al Ahly,” a source confirmed.

“However, he has since returned to the stands and separate sources have stated that should clubs be interested, his price tag would be in excess of R15 million.”
