Orlando Pirates news: Riveiro on Monnapule Saleng’s whereabouts

The Monnapule Saleng saga at Orlando Pirates continues to be a mystery as coach Jose Riveiro refused to share information.

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has refused to comment on the absence of winger Monnapule Saleng.

Saleng has been frozen out for months at Pirates with his last appearance coming in December 2024.

This despite his immense contribution which has, so far this season, yielded five goals and an assist in 13 games.

Saleng’s whereabouts have been hogging the headlines but even his agent Karabo Tshabuse isn’t willing to speak about it.

Now, Riveiro believes it would be unethical of him to discuss the players who are not available for selection at Pirates.

He said questions around Saleng’s long absence and other players will directly be addressed by the club when the time is right.

Saleng, 26, was heavily linked with a possible exit from Pirates in January but the Soweto giants managed to hold on to him.

RIVEIRO REFUSES TO DICUSS SALENG’S WHEREABOUTS

“Well played, but I don’t do it. I don’t speak about health of my players, it’s something that belongs to a private space,” said Riveiro as per SABC Sport.

“And the moments the club feels it’s time to speak about which players are injured and how long they are going to take, which moment of the process they’re in – they’ll do it.”

“It’s not part of my job description because, like I said, it’s not an ethical thing.

“I know it will be nice to know how close Olisa [Ndah] or [Goodman] Mosele, and what’s happening with Saleng. But it’s not going to happen,” concluded Riveiro.
