Monnapule Saleng on verge of Orlando Pirates return

Orlando Pirates faithful have a linger of hope when it comes to Monnapule Saleng. Could he return before the end of the season?

The Orlando Pirates-Monnapule Saleng debacle has eked out for nearly four months.

It could prove to be a costly hiatus for the Buccaneers, who find themselves in title contention for the first time in years. Saleng started the season as arguably the Soweto giants’ best player, scoring two goals in three PSL outings and rifling the leveller that ultimately spurred Orlando Pirates on to beat Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 Cup final.

The 27-year-old winger last played for the Sea Robbers on December 7 and has failed to make a matchday squad since. Tensions between the club and the player rose over salary demands the club refused to meet.

According to reports, Saleng’s current contract pays him R70,000, which he considers too low for his output.

A return on the cards?

Orlando Pirates haven’t ruled out a Saleng reunion, insinuating that his future at the club is still in the balance between an exit and staying.

“It’s the matter that is for the club and his handlers and it has nothing to do with his performances on the field. If it gets sorted in the office before the end of the season, there is a chance that he can return to the field, as far as I understand.”

Youngster wants Europe

Orlando Pirates recently promoted 22-year-old Siyabonga Ndlozi to the first team, which he sees as a crucial step to Europe.

“That’s how high he is aiming, believe it or not Siyabonga Ndlozi. He is a very confiedent player and his dream is to player overseas,” SoccerLaduma revealed.

“The first move was to break into the Pirates first-team, and now that has been achieved, he is working on cementing his place in the team to boost his chances of a European move.”

What should Orlando Pirates do with Saleng?
