OFFICIAL: Sundowns announce Cape Town City defender

Mamelodi Sundowns have made another addition to their already strong squad for the second half of the current season.

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced Cape Town City defender Keanu Cupido as their newest signing.

Cupido sealed his move to Chloorkop on PSL transfer deadline day but the Tshwane giants only unveiled him on Wednesday.

In a brief statement published on the day, Sundowns revealed that Cupido agreed to a long-term deal.

The 27-year-old is seen as a direct replacement to Rushine de Reuck who left Sundowns for Maccabi Petah Tikva on loan.

Cupido was a stalwart in that Cape Town City defence for years, and his departure will undoubtedly leave a huge void.

This season only, the lanky centre-back had already featured 15 times across all competitions for the Citizens.

Overall, Cupido leaves Cape Town City with 143 appearances, a goal and three assists to his name.

He follows in the footsteps of the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, Surprise Ralani and Kermit Erasmus who left Cape Town City for Sundowns.

Cupido, nonetheless, faces stiff competition for a place in the Miguel Cardoso’s starting line-up at Sundowns.

He should be prepared to battle with the likes of Mosa Lebusa, Grant Kekana and Mothobi Mvala for that centre-back position.
