Nabi and Riveiro could leave Chiefs and Pirates end of the season

Jose Riveiro’s contract with Orlando Pirates expires soon while Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi continues to get offers elsewhere.

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs could be without their respective coaches next season.

The Soweto giants have had contrasting results in the past five years. The Buccaneers have had success, winning five trophies under Jose Riveiro, while their rivals Amakhosi struggled despite changing coaches every season.

The Chiefs and Pirates have tried local coaches over the years, but it has not worked out, so they switched back to experienced foreign coaches. In the history of the PSL, foreign coaches have hardly stayed for four or five seasons and Riveiro and Nabi could likely leave soon.

In an interview with Robert Marawa on 947, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro spoke about his future at the club.

“It’s a good question, an important one probably for many people,” Riveiro said when asked about his future at Orlando Pirates.

“I’ll give you the standard answer [about my future], which is I’m sorry to disappoint you and disappoint your listeners as well,” he said.

“Right now, we’re in a very important period of the season. We’re in the middle of the fifth month of the season; we’re not even halfway.

With Riveiro likely to leave Pirates at the end of the season, Nabi can follow if Chiefs don’t improve. The Tunisian mentor recently turned down the opportunity to coach his country.
