Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says Lebo Mothiba is not in a good condition to be playing.

The 28-year-old striker has been training with the Brazilians for several weeks after his departure from French club Strasbourg. Having spent nearly a decade in France, the Bafana Bafana striker returned to South Africa last year.

Lebo Mothiba has been training with Sundowns since December but has yet to sign a contract with the club. Cardoso has revealed this week that the lanky striker is in no condition to be playing competitive football.

“Let me make it clear, Lebo Mothiba will not help the team because he’s not in good condition,” he told the media.

“He comes from a long period of injury. So, we should not even think about him helping the team at the moment, he’s not in that process.

Lebo Mothiba not officially a Sundowns player yet

“He’s working with us but it’s a medium, long-term plan for him. He’s been without playing for one year after he had a big surgery, and he’s working on his condition, still many questions on the process.

“He’s a wonderful person and a wonderful player but everybody, even ourselves, we cannot put pressure on him,” Cardoso concluded.

Masandawana currently top the Betway Premiership by three points and have reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League. Lebo Mothiba has not kicked a ball in over a year and it will interesting how he will fit into Sundowns’ system.

Mothiba has scored four times for Bafana Bafana in 17 games.
