Khan: Chiefs problems go beyond coaching, need technical genius

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan believes part of the solution to the club’s problems is to appoint a ‘technical genius’.

In an interview with Soccer Beat Podcast as per FARPost, Khan said Amakhosi’s current problems go beyond just coaching.

He is of the view that Chiefs need somebody who how to sign players who would fit into the club’s philosophy, style and game model.

And that somebody, whom he terms a technical genius, would make Nasreddine Nabi’s job easier at Chiefs.

Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold over the past decade despite several changes to their playing personnel and coaching staff.

The last time Chiefs had a ‘technical advisor’ was in January 2018 when they appointed Rob Hutting to work closely with Steve Komphela.

However, Chiefs decided to let him go in July 2018 as they made more changes to their technical team following the departure of Komphela in April.

Now, will Amakhosi consider Khan’s suggestion ahead of next season? Only time will tell.

“Chiefs problems go beyond the coaching; you need a technical genius who knows how to sign players; somebody who will look at a player and understand if that player can fit into the philosophy, the style, and the game model,” said Khan.

“Once you find that person, the coach’s job becomes much easier because he doesn’t have to change players [in the starting line-up] as often as we’re seeing currently.”
