Kaizer Chiefs vs Sundowns: What time is kickoff?
Huge match.
Kaizer Chiefs face the ultimate acid test of their early progress under Nasreddine Nabi when they face champions Sundowns. Here are the details.
Kaizer Chiefs face Sundowns at FNB Stadium
After two wins from two and an impressive 100% start to the campaign, Amakhosi face the sternest test of them all. The Betway Premiership champions Sundowns roll into Soweto to face Chiefs on Saturday 28 September. Kickoff is at 15:00. Elsewhere in the Betway Premiership on the same day, Cape Town City welcome SuperSport and Gallants host AmaZulu. On Sunday, Orlando Pirates travel to Richards Bay and Stellenbosch has an away clash against Polokwane City.
The script writes itself
Gaston Sirino spent six trophy-laden years with Sundowns. He collected 11 pieces of silverware with the Brazilians, including seven Betway Premiership titles. Now, his focus will be helping steer Chiefs to glory in 2024-2025 under Nasreddine Nabi.
Sirino knows how to win silverware
33-year-old Sirino, discarded by Sundowns and deemed surplus to requirements, has a new lease on life. He got an assist on the opening day and then scored the second goal in Chiefs’ 3-1 win at AmaZulu from his left-sided attacking midfield role. The Uruguayan would dearly love to get one over his old team on Saturday. How ironic would that be?
Nabi’s back five will be difficult to penetrate
Chiefs started five of their brand-new signings against Gallants on the opening day with a virtually brand-new defense. Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari was between the sticks and Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley and Bradley Cross took their places in the back four. That same back five started against AmaZulu and it would be a shock if they didn’t start together for a third game on the bounce. New boss Nasreddine Nabi has decided to build a solid defensive base, and it’s working so far. A man who’s been on the fringes of the Bafana setup, Given Msimango, is having to settle for a place on the bench.
Will Chiefs get three points against Sundowns this weekend?
