Kaizer Chiefs transfers: TWO wide attackers wanted
It’s almost D-Day.
There has been much talk about the attackers Kaizer Chiefs want to sign before the transfer window shuts. It boils down to two names.
Oswin Appollis is still a target for Kaizer Chiefs
Chiefs are desperate to sign wide attackers with Oswin Appollis and Asanele Velebayi linked for weeks. 23-year-old Appollis, a recent standout performer for Bafana Bafana, was excluded from Polokwane’s matchday squad for a Betway Premiership opening day win over AmaZulu. However, coach Phuti Mohafe poured water on claims that this omission was because of a pending move.
“Oswin is alive, Oswin is here,” said Mohafe.
“He didn’t play, he was in the national team. So we have to rest him, we need him more going forward.”
Velebayi is still available at the right price
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Velebayi also continues to be linked. Cape Town Spurs CEO Ari Efstathiou has reiterated the club’s stance on their prized asset, saying he would be sold should a club come up with an offer which meets their financial demands.
“There are no discounts when you know the worth of your product. We have shown that we are not opposed to selling players. We have lost three crucial players: Two of them went to Stellenbosch, who were willing to pay what we were asking for, and one to Chiefs. This is how it works all over the world.
“If anyone meets our asking price for Asanele, he will be transferred,” he added.
“In the meantime, Asanele is focused on the job at hand, and must say as a young player, he is handling the situation in a very mature way” he concluded.
Vilakazi could miss crunch clashes
18-year-old Mfundo Vilakazi, scorer of the winner for Chiefs in their opening day 2-1 win over Gallants, has been included in the South African U20 Men’s national team before the Cosafa Cup. These commitments will see him miss upcoming assignments against AmaZulu and quite possibly Sundowns.
“Although some clubs failed to release the players we requested for this important tournament, I believe we have selected a strong quality squad and will be able to achieve our objectives,” Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka said.
