Kaizer Chiefs to use Sirino, Billiat tactic for Zwane transfer?

Kaizer Chiefs have some tricks up their sleeve if they decided to pursue Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane.

Kaizer Chiefs have a habit of poaching Mamelodi Sundowns veterans.

They did it with Khama Billiat, Leonardo Castro, and most recently, Gaston Sirino, who all underwent contractual issues with Masandawana, opening the door for AmaKhosi.

A similar trend is materialising with Bafana star Themba Zwane, who, to the dismay of Sundowns fans, was offered a one-year contract extension before the season began.

This means the 34-year-old will enter free agency in five months if the Brazilians don’t intervene—history suggests that Kaizer Chiefs are licking their lips.

“Kaizer Chiefs could be watching the situation of a Mamelodi Sundowns star with an interested eye,” KickOff reported.

“This as has been the Soweto giants’ tradition with out-of-contract players at Chloorkop in recent years. Even though Chiefs appeared not to have planned it, it came as no surprise when they signed Gaston Sirino. This after his contract lapsed at Sundowns at the end of June 2024.

“Amakhosi may also not be able to resist the temptation of having the opportunity to sign Themba Zwane, whose contract is left with only five months. With Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos still rating the 35-year-old, it would not be a shock for Chiefs to lure the Tembisa-born man to Naturena.

“He would be following in the footsteps of the likes of Josta Dladla, Katlego Mphela, Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and recently Sirino, who all joined Chiefs from Sundowns as free agents.”

Last chance for Matlou

Kaizer Chiefs have informed George Matlou, who’s contract runs out at the end of the season, that he must perform to keep his spot in Soweto.

“For now, the ball is in his court,” SoccerLaduma confirmed.

“The club has made it clear to him that the games he will play between now and the of the season determine his future,

“They have told him that they understand that the injury has disrupted his progress at the club and the technical team has given him the chance to play then it’s now up to him to save his own career,

“So now it’s all up to him whether he will extend his contract or not. At least the club [Kaizer Chiefs] has communicated with him what they expect from him and that is to prove himself.”

Should Kaizer Chiefs take a chance on Zwane?
