Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has Egypt’s Zamalek FC vying for his signature.

The 30-year-old midfielder, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, hasn’t featured in the PSL since fracturing his fibula in late October.

According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs has yet to offer the Venezuelan international a contract extension, meaning Zamalek FC could acquire him on a free transfer.

More on Castillo

“There have been several inquiries but the main one which seems serious is from Zamalek,” SoccerLaduma commented.

“They had inquired before but at that time Chiefs were not willing to let him go. At the moment it seems he could leave for free as the club doesn’t seem keen to extend his contract,

“It’s his choice actually if Chiefs don’t renew and if Zamalek are interest in him it will depend on the talks between the player and Zamalek. Of course there have been inquiries and with Thabo Cele at the team now and the injury that Castillo suffered, this is chance now.”

Kaizer Chiefs to secure Matlou’s future?

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou seems set to stay in Soweto for another season as the club prepares a one-year contract extension with an option to extend.

“For now, we can say the deal is as good as done,” a Siya source confirmed.

“The club wanted to see him, if he can play after the injury and after the technical team saw what he can do both at training and in the games he has played, they have agreed that they can offer him a new one-year contract with another one-year option,

“So, although it is not a done deal yet there is light at the end of the tunnel for George [Matlou]”.

Another source confirmed Kaizer Chiefs’ keeness, saying, “to be honest with you, his injury almost cost him his future at Chiefs,

“Last season he was expected to play an important role but after just a few games he got injured. It was a long-term injury and when the new coach came in he was still recovering and was not part of his plans going into the new season,

“But after fully recovering, the technical team gave him a chance and now he is on the verge of a new deal. The injury is what delayed his progress but hopefully now things are looking good for him.”
