Inacio Miguel is the newest man to arrive at Kaizer Chiefs under Nasreddine Nabi. How does he fit into things?

Potential Kaizer Chiefs XI vs Gallants with new signings

Ntwari; Frosler, Inacio Miguel, Msimango, Dortley; Mthethwa, Zwane; Shabalala, Sirino, Du Preez; Chivaviro.

Initially, it’s likely that 22-year-old central defender Rushwin Dortley will have to settle for a place on the bench. However, don’t be surprised if the former Cape Town Spurs man forces himself into the reckoning. He’s recently been called up by Bafana Bafana. He could also deputise at left-back, which is a problem position since new signing Bongani Sam is recovering from a foot issue. Where does this leave Thatayaone Ditlhokwe? There have been surprising rumours that the Chiefs board will listen to offers for the 25-year-old Botswana star. Yusuf Maart is also highly regarded within the club and would expect to line up in midfield, alongside Mthethwa or in the number 10 position in place of Sirino.

*With kickoff against Gallants on 14 September, plenty of this is subject to change as players near full fitness.

It’s time for Mthethwa to prove his worth in midfield

Only Deano Van Rooyen (57) completed more tackles than him last season (55). However, Mthethwa is by far the most efficient in terms of tackles per game; his 55 came from only 18 league appearances at an average of 3.1 per match. Van Rooyen made 2.11 tackles per game. So, how does Nabi get the most out of him? Extract the maximum from Mthethwa and Chiefs will immediately look a better outfit. He could be a highly effective operator in the 4-2-3-1, a known favourite formation of Nasreddine Nabi.

Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2023-2024 league campaign in tenth position, their worst placing in the history of the DStv Premiership. Their last league title came back in 2015, their most recent piece of major silverware. They begin the new 2024-2025 Betway Premiership campaign away to Marumo Gallants on 14 September.
