Kaizer Chiefs still flirting with Appollis, Fiston and Velebayi but will it end in tears?

A reunion between Fiston Mayele and Nasreddine Nabi could be on the cards but will Kaizer Chiefs go all out for the Congolese striker?

Kaizer Chiefs are not letting go of the key players they failed to sign this season.

Amakhosi were linked with several top players in the Premier Soccer League and across Africa. The likes of Elias Mokwana and Khanyiso Mayo were snatched by North African giants before the club made a formal bid.

Other players that Kaizer Chiefs failed to sign include Asanele Velebayi, Fawaaz Basadien, Oswin Appollis and Fiston Mayele. Out of the four players, Nasreddine Nabi is more interested in Mayele.

The Congolese star played for Young Africans in Tanzania under Nabi and was reportedly set to join his former coach. His current club Pyramids refused to sell their top striker for anything less than R15 million.

According to a Soccer Laduma insider, Kaizer Chiefs are not regretting missing out on the striker.

“There is no regret at all from the club. You know those are different eras of the team and they can’t judge the past and pin it on the present,” the insider added.

“Maybe they were looking at a younger striker than him at that time, and things could have changed now,”

Another source claimed that Mayele was offered to the Soweto giants. “The player was offered to Chiefs and not the other way around. Now it’s the coach who wants the player because he knows him very well,” he said.

Having already brought in seven new players, Nabi is looking to add more during the January transfer window. Another player he is monitoring closely is Appollis. The Polokwane City star has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs for over a year.
