Kaizer Chiefs star Mduduzi Shabalala reveals his dirty Orlando Pirates secret
Well lookie here.

Mduduzi Shabalala is a firm favourite of the Kaizer Chiefs fans but he’s got a little Orlando Pirates secret.
Mdu Shabalala grew up supporting Orlando Pirates
20-year-old Kaizer Chiefs attacker Mduduzi Shabalala revealed he grew up supporting Orlando Pirates but says now he will “die a Chiefs fan”. The young attacker has become a key operator Chiefs in the 2024-2025 campaign, appearing in all of their Betway Premiership clashes and in a new number 10 role. He’s got four goals and an assist so far in the league this term.
‘Mdu’, as he is affectionately known, worshipped Thembinkosi Lorch when growing up in an all-Pirates household. With Lorch having moved on to Sundowns, there’s space in the fixture for another star to make a name for himself in South Africa’s premier club fixture.
Shabalala recalls the first Soweto Derby he attended in “about 2019 or 2020 where Chiefs were leading 1-0 and Lorch equalised after a pass from Ben Motshwari”.

This is Mdu’s season
News of a new contract is a boost for the player and the club and just rewards for the hard work he’s put into his craft. Arguably the team’s creative heartbeat. After moments of inconsistency in 2023-2024, Mdu is making this season his own with a string of impressive and authoritative performances.
Rolls Royce talent following in Shabalala’s footsteps
Speaking of youth academy talents, Royce Malatji is one you should remember. Amakhosi’s technical team have uncovered another gem. 16-year-old teenage prodigy Royce Malatji has had a taste of first-team training at Naturena and he seems to be a player capable of playing several positions. The most talented youngsters often can. With a name like Royce, perhaps he’s destined for the top. If you’re good enough you’re old enough.
“He is just 16 years old but he is very good. He can play at right back, central defence, right-wing or even as a central midfielder. It doesn’t matter where he plays – he is just good!,” the Siya crew stated on SoccerLaduma.

Is Mdu Shabalala Chiefs’ most important player?
