Kaizer Chiefs are dealing with several injuries and suspensions. Fortunately, Wandile Duba could return this season and they’ve also made some money.

Full list of Kaizer Chiefs injury absentees

Five injured players will not take part in Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup clash with Chippa on Saturday. Meanwhile, Yusuf Maart is suspended so we’re likely to see Njabulo Blom or Samkelo Zwane in midfield alongside Thabo Cele. Here are the club’s currently injured stars:

  • Sibongiseni Mthethwa
  • Wandile Duba
  • Ashley Du Preez
  • Edmilson Dove
  • Dillan Solomons

When will Wandile Duba return?

According to Soccer-Laduma, 20-year-old Wandile Duba’s injury sustained against Free Agents FC on 28 Jan would keep him out of action for six weeks. In theory, he could return in mid-March. He’ll be tentatively eyeing out a trip to Richards Bay on 16 March as a potential return date.

Ditlhokwe heading to Al Ittihad

According to FARPost, 26-year-old central defender/left-back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe will move to Libya’s Al Ittihad before the Libyan transfer window shuts on Monday, 17 February. The fee they’re paying is in the region of R15.8 million. The Botswana international skipper will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal. Ditlhokwe has made nine Betway Premiership appearances this season after falling down the pecking order behind first-choice defensive pairing Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley. He has been deployed at left-back in recent matches though.

Predicted Chiefs starting XI vs Chippa

Bvuma; Frosler, Miguel, Dortley, Mashiane; Cele, Blom; Lilepo, Shabalala, Sirino; Morris.

‘Sheriff’ Miguel should captain the Glamour Boys

KwaMashu-born Thabo Cele, a recruit in the Chiefs engine room, shared Inacio Miguel’s story on Instagram and added some Portuguese flavour to his caption. “Xerife”, the word he added to the post, means sheriff in Portuguese, a language both players speak fluently. Miguel has become a mainstay in the heart of defence for Chiefs under Nasreddine Nabi, forming a partnership with 22-year-old Rushwin Dortley. Although Angolan star Miguel has served two separate suspensions, he’s also skippered Chiefs four times while Yusuf Maart wasn’t in the side. He will do so again this weekend.
