Kaizer Chiefs news: Amakhosi legend calls for club to hand Vries a rest
Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, William Shongwe has called on a goalkeeping change after a few costly errors from under-fire Virgil Vries.

The Namibian international had deputised for Bafana veteran, Itumeleng Khune since joining the Soweto giants from Baroka at the beginning of the season, and was handed the gloves on a more permanent basis after the Chiefs skipper was ruled out of the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
His time in the sun ha, however, not been the happiest, as he has drawn criticism from the Amakhosi faithful, thanks to a couple of costly errors which saw the clubs register defeats against Mamelodi Sundowns, and later, Cape Town City.
The deafening calls for the 28-year-old to be sidelined have not only been confined to the club’s supporters, with legendary goalkeeper, William Shongwe suggesting he has seen enough of the shot-stopper for the time being.
Speaking to IOL, the Supersport pundit expressed that it might be time to hand new recruit, Daniel Akpeyi a debut when the Glamour Boys face up to bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates in their next fixture.
“Personally, I think it’s the time to sideline him so that he can get a break,” he reacted.
“Akpeyi has been a pillar of strength at Chippa (United). He brings all the experience from the international scene.
“His game also has a chance to shoot up to where we’ve never seen it before. I don’t think there’s a problem (with him) being on board; in fact, I thought it was a great move. I’d say throw him in the deep end.”
Kaizer Chiefs are currently fifth on the PSL log, having lost 1-0 to Cape Town City in their last outing.
They next square off against Orlando Pirates, whom they haven’t defeated in 12 previous attempts, at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 9 February.
