Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune is close to cementing a surprise return to the Soweto giants.

He would still be between the sticks if it were up to the 37-year-old, but after twenty-five years at the club, Khune received no contract extension after his expired at the end of last season, the worst campaign ever recorded by Chiefs, finishing tenth, thirty-seven points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to reports, AmaKhosi is eager to enlist him in their marketing and commercial department.

Chief’s see promise in Khune

“Yes, the club still wants to work with Itu [Khune]. They feel that he still has a lot to offer outside the playing field and that’s why the talks never stopped,” SoccerLaduma confirmed.

“The club understands that he has other responsibilities in his life but they are looking at a possible way of formulating a conducive working partnership which will suit both parties and that’s why they are still talking to him regarding that position in the marketing and commercial department with Jessica.”

There’s also hope of the former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper becoming a goalkeeping coach in the future:

“[Another way he could] contribute to the team is by teaching the young goalkeepers the ropes,

“For now it could be for the marketing and commercial department but they also want him to do his coaching badges and impact his knowledge to the young and upcoming goalkeepers,

“The club believes he still has a lot to contribute to the team in terms of teaching the young goalkeepers the ropes as he has been there and done almost everything for the team. So, no matter which department works for him, the club still wants him back.”
