Chiefs have announced that midfielder Edson Castillo will undergo surgery due to a fractured fibula, side lining him for four to five months. The club released a statement detailing the injury, which occurred during a match against SuperSport United on Saturday evening in Polokwane. “It is with great dismay that we announce that Edson Castillo will be side lined for a period of four to five months due to a fractured fibula sustained during the match against SuperSport United,” the statement said.
Injury details and coach’s concern
The serious injury happened in the first half as a result of a vicious tackle inside the opponent’s 18-yard box. Following the incident, head coach Nasreddine Nabi expressed his concern for player safety and received a yellow card for passionately urging officials to prioritise protection for the players. “In the aftermath of the tackle, our head coach, Nasreddine Nabi expressed his concern for player safety,” the club noted.
Kaizer Chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Castillo during this challenging time. “The Club stands firmly behind Edson during this challenging time. Despite Castillo’s injury, Kaizer Chiefs will return to action on Wednesday evening against newly-promoted Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership. They followed that triumph with a scoreless draw against Cape Town City on Sunday, showcasing their resilience as they navigate their debut season in the top flight.
