Zwane said the tournament offered him a good chance to give some players time out in the middle.

He feels that the exercise will prove to be far more valuable than a victory would have been.

“Ja you know penalties are a lottery but ja I think it was a good exercise for our boys for the fact that we also came back from a goal down,” Zwane told SABC Sport after the match.

“I still believe we could have done better in terms of the few goal-scoring opportunities that we created but having said what we’re happy about is giving other players an opportunity.

“More than winning the game because it’s more like a friendly game, though every game we play, we play to win. I cannot faulter the effort of the boys, they’ve done very well but they could’ve done better,” he said.

Zwane insisted that the outing was a success for his team because they were able to give players a good workout during the international break.

When asked by SABC sport presenters if he was happy with the player’s efforts in Bloemfontein, Zwane added: “Yes, individual performance, we’re trying to put mileage out there, we’re trying to help the boys to be on par with the rest of the boys that have been playing regularly. So that was the whole exercise today.”

Back in action

Kaizer Chiefs went into the international break in ninth place off the back of a win against SuperSport United which ended a sequence of four matches without a regulation time win.

Zwane’s team will be back in action next Sunday, 2 October when they will take on Amazulu in the MTN 8 Seni-final first leg.
