Kaizer Chiefs will be interested to hear that their players are garnering more foreign interest from wealthy potential buyers.

Amakhosi striker linked with a Portuguese move

According to iDiski Timesan unnamed Portuguese team is willing to pay R20 million to Kaizer Chiefs for versatile attacker Ashley Du Preez.

“Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez has attracted interest from Europe again ahead of the 2024/2025 season. There’s been new interest in Portugal for the former Stellenbosch FC star, with the interested clubs willing to pay double what Chiefs secured him for in July 2022. Amakhosi forked out around R10 million to prize him away from Stellies, while Mamelodi Sundowns were also keen,” wrote the publication.

Du Preez’s Kaizer Chiefs career in a nutshell

The former Stellies wide attacker has shown glimpses of quality after struggling to impose himself initially. He had a brief purple patch in the 2023/2024 campaign. However, he was struck down by a long-term injury which hampered his progress at the tail end of 2023. That issue extended into the start of 2024. His injury mostly dovetailed with the international break, however, so Du Preez still managed a healthy tally of 23 league appearances with a modest return of four goals and an assist. Since signing for Amakhosi in July 2022, the 26-year-old has made 59 appearances. In that time he has 15 goals and seven assists.

MOTHIBA COULD MOVE TO SUNDOWNS WITH CHIEFS LURKING

The Citizen reported that Mamelodi Sundowns are at the head of the queue to sign 28-year-old Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba and they’ve already held initial talks. He’s a free agent after leaving Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg after six years in the Northeast of France. Mothiba is back in the country after ending his spell with Strasbourg where injuries were a constant theme, the latest of which sadly saw him miss Afcon. Sundowns want a long-term replacement for Peter Shalulile who’s been below his best this term. There would certainly be risk involved, given his injuries, but the fact that there’s no transfer fee could remove some of that.
