REMINDER: Kaizer Chiefs are on a PSL trophy drought but Orlando Pirates are on a much longer one
Much is said about Kaizer Chiefs and their PSL trophy drought, but what about Orlando Pirates? Theirs is even longer.
Kaizer Chiefs may not have won the PSL since 2015, but let’s not forget that Orlando Pirates are on an even longer league title drought. The Sundowns dominance continues.

Sundowns utterly dominant
Masandawana have won the PSL in eight of the last 10 campaigns, with Bidvest Wits in 2017 and Kaizer Chiefs in 2015 the only sides to break up a total monopoly for a decade. Pirates, you say? Their last league title was all the way back in 2012. That’s well over a decade. They did go back-to-back in both 2011 and 2012, but that all feels like a long time ago right now. Also, in the past 11 seasons, Chiefs have won two titles. Pirates have won zero.

Kaizer Chiefs in pole position for second place?
Although Amakhosi are behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns by virtue of goal difference, they’re the side hitting top form at the right time with five wins on the bounce across all competitions. If they finish second and claim a CAF Champions League place, that would represent significant improvement and a platform from which to build for 2023-24.
