Gavin Hunt is still smarting from losing Etiosa Ighodaro and Bradley Grobler, but he has admitted that SuperSport United need a striker.

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has broken his silence on reports that they are interested in Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa.

Matsatsantsa are short of strikers following the departure of Etiosa Ighodaro to AmaZulu from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Hunt admitted that his team is indeed need of a striker or two but he doesn’t know anything about Lepasa returning to Tshwane.

Hunt and Lepasa worked together for a short period when the attacker was loaned out to SuperSport United by Pirates.

And the move appeared to have revived Lepasa’s career as he came back stronger at Pirates and scored some important goals.

However, he has now fallen down the pecking order under Jose Riveir with Tshegofatso Mabasa taking over alongside Evidence Makgopa.

But Hunt denied any knowledge of SuperSport United’s interest in Lepasa, saying he only reads it in the media.

“I read about that in the media [Zakhele Lepasa’s possible move to SuperSport] but we need some strikers,” Hunt told the media as per FARPost.

“We lost Ighodaro and Bradley, they gave us 20 goals last year, where are we gonna get 20 goals? We need a striker and obviously work permits are a problem. There should be a law where everybody get these work permits at the same time.

“Other people get it [quicker] and others don’t, they should make it like in Europe where everyone gets their work permit at the same time.”

TIME TO LET LEPASA GO?

Lepasa is yet to feature in any of the five competitive matches that Pirates have played so far this season.

And it is unclear if Riveiro plans to utilise him this season.

After all, Lepasa is a trusted Bafana Bafana striker but has since lost his place in Hugo Broos’ team due to his lack of game time.

Perhaps a move away from Pirates could do him a world of good, and see him reclaim his place in the Bafana Bafana setup.

But whether or not SuperSport United intend to explore that option remains to be seen.

Last season, Lepasa scored 10 goals with no assists to his name in 28 matches across all competitions as per Transfermarkt.
