Five Kaizer Chiefs players leaving the club

Business to do.

Kaizer Chiefs could say goodbye to several high-profile players when the January transfer window rolls around.

Kaizer Chiefs still have squad trimming to do

With the emergency of Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel, Chiefs now have a dilemma and surplus in the centre of defence. The season is long and the squad must serve its purpose, but both Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango won’t be content with a place on the bench. The likeliest to leave out of those two is Ditlhokwe who was linked with several top sides in the winter window.

Happy Mashiane won’t get much game-time either with two new left-backs in the shape of Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam.

Wide areas are looking deep

If Chiefs can reignite foreign interest in Ashley Du Preez, they should cash in on the former Stellies man. They could garner a massive bid which could get them a few new attackers from local clubs. If Du Preez is retained, it’s almost guaranteed that Tebogo Potsane will need to leave the club to get any meaningful minutes in the first team. Youngster Mfundo Vilakazi and the experienced duo of Gaston Sirino and Pule Mmodi give Chiefs plenty of depth in those wide areas. In the goalkeeping department, Chiefs have selected Fiacre Ntwari as their number one. It’s likely one of his understudies, either Bruce Bvuma or Brandon Petersen, will need to depart for game time.

Mdu is coming into his own

Mduduzi Shabalala has always had the talent to succeed, but there have been question marks about his attitude and application. 2024-2025 feels like the season where the 20-year-old truly announces himself on this stage in the number 10 role for Kaizer Chiefs. 22-year-old Samkelo Zwane has also staked a claim for a place in the starting XI this season despite consistently being linked with a loan exit in the most recent window.
