SuperSport United have announced the return to the club of former Kaizer Chiefs star Onismor Bhasera.

Bhasera, who spent eight years at Matsatsantsa between 2016 and 2023, rejoins the club as a coach.

In a statement released on Wednesday, SuperSport United said Bhasera will form part of the newly-assembled technical team.

This technical is led by Andre Arendse as interim coach and Grant Johnson as his assistant until the end of the season.

The changes came as a result of Gavin Hunt’s departure who was let go by SuperSport United last week.

Now, Bhasera (39) will be expected to contribute positively to the team using his experience and deep understanding of the club.

Upon his departure from SuperSport United last year, the former Zimbabwe international enrolled for coaching badges.

Those coaching courses were paid for by SuperSport United as part of empowering him and thanking him for his loyalty to them.

Bhasera follows in the footsteps of the likes of Ricardo Katza, Kaitano Tembo and Thabo September who were handed coaching roles by Matsatsantsa after retirement.

Perhaps what is special about Bhasera’s return is that he is going straight to work with the first team and not the youth development sides.

“Leadership. Experience. Spartan,” reads the club’s statement.

“Onismor Bhasera returns to help guide the team forward as part of Andre Arendse and Grant Johnson’s technical team.

“Welcome back, Bash! Your experience and passion for the game will be key for the road ahead!”

CAN THE TRIO SAVE MATSATSANTSA?
