Ex-Chiefs coach Ntseki issues a warning to Nasreddine Nabi ahead of the new season. Former Kaizer Chiefs manager Molefi Ntseki has spoken out indirectly, cautioning the club’s new head coach, Nabi. As they gear up for the upcoming season. Ntseki’s reflections provide insights into the challenges and pressures faced by Amakhosi coaching staff amidst supporters’ expectations.

Ntseki assumed leadership at Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the 2023/2024 DStv Premiership season, overseeing a total of 13 matches across various competitions. During his tenure, the team managed to secure four victories and three draws but faced setbacks with six defeats. Notably, Chiefs suffered early exits from both the Carling Knockout Cup and the MTN8 tournament. Which prompted dissatisfaction among supporters and the hierarchy.

Challenges and fan backlash

The underwhelming performance under Ntseki’s guidance led to visible frustrations among Chiefs’ faithful, with some fans resorting to extreme measures such as throwing objects during matches. This backlash intensified as the season progressed, culminating in Ntseki’s departure from the club in October 2023. Following his exit, Cavin Johnson assumed an interim coaching role but struggled to improve results, resulting in a disappointing 10th-place finish for the Glamour Boys.

Appointment of Nasreddine Nabi and technical team changes

In response to the turbulent season, Kaizer Chiefs underwent significant restructuring within their technical staff by appointing Nasreddine Nabi as the new head coach. Nabi, known for his tactical acumen and previous coaching experiences. Has brought in a fresh perspective alongside assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Fernando Da Cruz. Additionally, Ilyes Mzoughi and Safi Majdi were enlisted as goalkeeper coach and conditioning coach, respectively. Which aims to strengthen the team’s strategic and physical capabilities.

Reflecting on his tenure at Kaizer Chiefs and the challenges he faced. Ntseki addressed the impatience exhibited by the club’s supporters and emphasised the need for a shift in handling coaching transitions and fan expectations.

“I don’t think the supporters were very patient with me. What happened [missile throwing] was not happening for the first time,” Ntseki remarked during an interview on Metro FM, as quoted by FARPost. He stressed the importance of understanding the complexities involved in building a successful team. And managing the high expectations at a club like Kaizer Chiefs.

Key takeaway on Ntseki’s insights

As Kaizer Chiefs embark on a new era under Nasreddine Nabi’s leadership. Ntseki’s insights serve as a stark reminder of the intense scrutiny and pressures faced by coaches in one of South Africa’s most illustrious football clubs. The upcoming season will be a critical test for Nabi. He aims to navigate these challenges, restore confidence among supporters, and guide the team to competitive success in domestic and possibly continental competitions.
