Double defensive boost for Orlando Pirates ahead of Chiefs battle
Timely.

Orlando Pirates have got a shot in the arm with two defensive pillars likely to return to their starting XI against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.
Sibisi returns from suspension
In Pirates’ relatively comfortable 3-1 win at Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup, regular number one goalkeeper Sipho Chaine sat the game out. He’s one booking away from a suspension so Pirates had one eye on the Soweto Derby in this regard. Nkosinathi Sibisi missed the clash at Bay through suspension but he should return against Kaizer Chiefs in place of Tapelo Xoki who ably deputized for the 29-year-old Durban-born star. There’s seriously healthy competition for places in the heart of defence for Jose Riveiro.

Mofokeng is now the most important player at Pirates
Relebohile Mofokeng is now arguably the most important player on Pirates’ books. The dazzling wideman already has 11 goals and eight assists across all competitions this term, a stunning output for one so young.
What’s Mofokeng’s record against Kaizer Chiefs?
Rele has won both of his meetings with great Soweto rivals Chiefs. However, on a personal level, he’s not yet scored or assisted against them. It’s a record he’d love to set straight on Saturday 01 February at 15:30.

Predicted Orlando Pirates XI in the Derby
Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sesane, Sibisi, Hotto; Mbatha, Makhaula; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa.
In Pirates’ relatively comfortable 3-1 win at Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup, regular number one goalkeeper Sipho Chaine wasn’t risked. He’s one booking away from a suspension so Pirates clearly had one eye on the Soweto Derby in this regard. Nkosinathi Sibisi missed the clash at Bay through suspension but he should return against Kaizer Chiefs in place of Tapelo Xoki.
The other big choice is upfront; manager Jose Riveiro must select between Tshegofatso Mabasa or Evidence Makgopa to lead the line.
