Doctor Khumalo on Kaizer Chiefs signings

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi secured three new signings in the January transfer window. Here’s Doctor Khumalo’s ratings.

According to Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo, the club’s three new players have shown the expected level.

IMPROVED SQUAD

“You could tell in their last matches that there has been an injection of new fuel,” Khumalo told iDiski Times. “You look at Morris, and he is a mover; he looks comfortable with the ball, and he engages the defenders.

“The Congolese [Glody Lilepo] looks to me like he came into the club knowing their trophy drought situation and wants to really make a difference. But he looks to me like he is putting himself under too much pressure; he wants to do too much too soon. I think he is a good player, and he’s already shown that with the goals he scored. He just needs to calm down a little because, I really think he is the answer to what Nabi was looking for in attack.

“I like Thabo Cele’s arrogance in midfield. He reminds me of Wellington Manyathi, a commanding figure on the pitch that always seems to be saying, ‘I’m the boss’. Chiefs have signed well,” Khumalo concluded.

BRIAN BALOYI RATES NEW KAIZER CHIEFS SIGNINGS

Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi will probably motivate this player to prove him wrong. “I’m not sure about [Tashreeq] Morris, I’m still not convinced yet. Of all the [January] signings, Morris is the downfall,” Baloyi told FARPost. “I haven’t seen enough that I can say he’s a good signing for Chiefs. But hopefully, he can turn around the corner and start scoring; at least he’s getting game time.

“So far, other new players have been adjusting well to the team. Cele is playing well in the midfield, showing signs that he’s a good signing for Chiefs. “Lilepo, as well. In the attack, he brought something to the team. He’s scoring goals and creating opportunities for the team,” added the former Chiefs goalkeeper.

SIYABONGA NOMVETHE ON ITUMELENG KHUNE

Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe has terrorised all but one goalkeeper in Mzansi.

“There are many, but the only one goalkeeper that I didn’t exactly hit properly, one who had some serious luck is [Itumeleng] Khune,” Nomvethe told iDiski Times.

“Khune is the only one I haven’t hit properly. He is the only one; the rest I have hit them properly (chuckles). I’d look then and think this was one. Once I get the ball, he is going to leak in goals.”
