Kaizer Chiefs are set to lose out on yet another transfer target as a club CEO refuses to budge.

Chiefs have so far signed four players, with a fifth player set to be announced imminently ahead of the season.

Chiefs have added just one attacker thus far

Out of the four new signings, three are defensively minded, including a goalkeeper. As it stands, Chiefs have signed the trio of Bongani Sam, Fiacre Ntwari and Rushwin Dortley to boost their defensive. So far, it has only been the latter that has been unveiled by Amakhosi, this ahead of their 4-0 loss to Yanga SC. Neither of them did come on though, and had to watch the Toyota Cup loss to the Tanzanian giant. Sam is the only one of the trio who joined early enough to go to Turkey with the squad.

Chiefs then finally signed an attacker in former Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino who joins on a two-year deal. Before Sirino joined, Amakhosi were hard at work trying to sign Asanele Velebayi. An initial bid for the player was turned down, before a second bid was also rejected. A second bid was also rejected, sending the player and his family into uproar. Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou claimed Amakhosi were using underhand tactics to sign the player.

Efstathiou has also claimed that Chiefs don’t want to pay top dollar for Velebayi, therefore they won’t get him. Now according to KickOff.com, they may not get another chance to negotiate with Spurs.

Velebayi transfer saga now over?

“The shop is closed now. We are focusing on our first game of the season against Tuks. if you are not happy with your wife, that doesn’t mean you change a wife every year. Many youngsters would love to have a professional contract and be in the player’s shoes right now.” Said Efstathiou to the same publication.

With that sentiment, it looks as if Spurs will not be releasing anymore players. This means the opportunity to sign Velebayi may have now passed. Chiefs fans, is this a big blow for the club? Feel free to leave your feelings and comments in the comments section below!
