Dutch clubs to swoop for Kaizer Chiefs target

Shandre Campbell is tantalising football scouts with his displays.

His form has not escaped the watchful eyes of European scouts, with two Dutch Eredivisie giants vying for his signature.

“Both Dutch clubs who are interested in the youngster have a good history with SuperSport United. You remember Kermit Erasmus and Kamohelo Mokotjo both played for these teams and they were from the youth development of SuperSport United? I think that’s the relationship which is influencing this interest as well. I can’t say it’s a done deal he is going to one of the teams or not but the interest is there for the young boy,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“I think it will all go down to money issues if it happens that he goes because for now the club wants to keep all their young players and build a strong team that can compete again.

“And also there is one North African club interested in him as well. You know that club that played against SuperSport United in the CAF Confederation Cup from Libya, they are also interested in Campbell. They say they have been losing players without replacing them so this time around they want to make sure they keep them but if the money is good they would let him go as every team needs money to run the club. The interest will always be there but it all depends if they take action on them,” the source concluded.

Orlando Pirates stalwart to join Spurs in rescue mission

Cape Town Spurs are reportedly interested in signing veteran Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane.

The Cape outfit have found the going tough in the DStv Premiership this season after earning promotion via the playoffs.

Sekhukhune United chasing former Downs star

Sekhukhune United have reportedly shown interest in signing Upington City FC attacker Keletso Makgalwa.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has been in top form for the club.

“Keletso Makgalwa has done very well for Upington City since he joined them a few months ago,” a source told FARPost.

“Obviously, he performed very well in a short space of time and it’s a no-brainer that there’ll be interest in his services.

“Sekhukhune United is making a real push for Makgalwa’s signature and they wanted to bring him on board during the January transfer window.

“But it looks like they won’t be able to get him in the upcoming window because Upington City values him a lot. Unless anything drastic happens but for now Makgalwa will remain at his club.”

Amazulu set to tie down former Kaizer Chiefs star

AmaZulu are said to be prepared to reward seasoned defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele with a new contract offer.

A source told Soccer Laduma: “The talks have been going on for some time now. If the player’s contract is ending in June the next year obviously they have to start talking early and that’s what the club did. It’s an initial one-year straight deal but with a one-year option. So if they agree on that it means he could be at the club until June 2026. They technical team believes in him and that’s why they are keeping him. It’s almost done as we speak.

“The other thing why they want to keep him is that management are looking at roles he would play post retirement. So it’s not just for now but for the future as well. He is a dedicated player and that plays to his advantage as well. His discipline is also an advantage for him as a player and that’s why this deal is important to both parties,” the source added .

Sundowns coach ‘knows nothing’ about Argentinean linked to club

Matias Esquivel may have been linked with Sundowns but Rhulani Mokwena says that he is totally in the dark on this one.

“Argentinian [player]? You seem to know more than me. I know absolutely nothing as I sit here,” the 36-year-old coach claimed when asked about Esquivel in a press conference.

Royal AM star eligible for pre-contract move

Thabo Matlaba, a former Orlando Pirates defender, had his contract extended by Royal AM for a further year at the beginning of the current campaign. Since the player’s current deal expires in June 2024, the club may be looking to prolong its hold on this versatile player.

A source told Soccer Laduma: “Yes, it true he signed another one year deal at the start of the season and they feel like they should have just given him a two-year contract and that’s why they are offering him this new one-year contract until June 2025.

“They want to keep him because of his experience and also leadership amongst the players. For now they are talking about another one-year but you never know what could happen at the end of the negotiations. It could be more.

“Mind you he is 36-years-old and this could be his last professional contract in the top league.”

Kaizer Chiefs coach happy with squad

Interim Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson doesn’t need a squad refresh in January.

At least that is Johnson’s opinion.

“At the moment, I don’t want any player because I think that the time I’ve spent with them [players] is far too little,” said Johnson.

“If I can change players over two months, in fact, if there is any coach who can change players over two months, I will eat my hat.

“So yes, at the moment, there are some patterns that look like they work, but they are not working all the time. We need to make sure that it is repetition after repetition in order to make them work so that they can be better players.

“And I said this before, you join Chiefs as a good player, and as the coach, I should make you a better player. I’m not a magician, but we are working on it slowly.

“I would not say that I found the best combinations within the team as yet. I think they can be better,” added Johnson.

On-loan Orlando Pirates star wanted in KZN

Tshegofatso Mabasa, a striker with the Orlando Pirates on loan at Swallows, may be set to make a move as the January transfer window draws near.

With six goals in 13 league games to start his spell at Moroka Swallows, the gifted attacker has drawn attention from other teams, possibly paving the way for an early release from his loan term.

FARpost write: “AmaZulu FC, languishing in 10th place in the DStv Premiership and desperately seeking a reliable goalscorer, have reportedly set their sights on Mabasa. Usuthu’s struggles in front of goal are no secret, having netted a mere 11 goals in 15 matches so far this season.”

Kaizer Chiefs target wants to be the best

Kaizer Chiefs target Khanyiso Mayo has the ambition to be South Africa’s best.

The Cape Town City man opened up about his ambitions recently.

“Like last season I’m currently one of the joint top goalscorers, which means I’m still in the race to compete and win the Golden Boot again, and this time I’m not sharing,” Mayo told KickOff.

“I want to be a solo winner and I want to be recognized amongst the best in the country. Yes, this season I did experience a slow start and it has to happen after coming back after pre-season.

“And the games were coming thick and fast because they were played back to back, you played three times in a space of seven days. But after getting quite a few rests, I managed to find my feet again. It was about finding that one goal that was going to open doors for more goals for me.

“What helped me is… I was patient, that’s what I emphasized to myself, even my Dad (South African legend Patrick Mayo) will attest that composure in the box, is one thing that no one can teach you.”

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs target wanted abroad

Elias Mokwana reportedly has a surprise move in store.

Sekhukhune United and the player have now indicated that Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs could ultimately lose out on the player.

“Yes, there is a lot of interest in the player and you have to know that now it has emerged that there is interest from Europe and that has put a spanner in the works. It will make it a bit difficult for the local team to push for his move because the club will now be looking at the bigger picture which is Europe,” said a Soccer Laduma source.

“But you can’t write anything off because this is football and it’s full of surprises. But with the European interest it changes a lot about the player,” the source observed.
