Benni McCarthy talks coaching jobs, Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns
There’s a lot of speculation surrounding the future of former Orlando Pirates star Benni McCarthy. We discuss the details.
Champions League winner Benni McCarthy is still on the job market following his Manchester United departure.
From Kaizer Chiefs to Mamelodi Sundowns, rumours have run rife regarding his future destination; and it appears he has no desire for the PSL (just yet).
“La Liga or the Portuguese league, that’s where I’m looking to go,” McCarthy explained.
Before adding that he’s “not aiming [low] like help [Kaizer] Chiefs, [Orlando] Pirates or Sundowns My ambitions are far beyond that.”
“I’ve had three interviews with three different MLS clubs, so now their season is finished and they are just embarking on a final for the team to win the league; LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls will be in the final [MLS Cup on Saturday].
“For the rest of the teams, they are now off-season, and the league has finished. I think teams now are assessing, they have interviewed coaches and, unfortunately, if someone loses his job they have candidates that are there.”
No go for Sundowns & Chiefs?
Benni McCarthy has been heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns – the former Premier League striker was quick to dismiss the rumours.
“They were saying Benni is coming to Kaizer Chiefs, it was just rumours. I’ve not spoken to Sundowns. There has been no dialogue between me and the team. That’s firstly out of the way, and I think they’ve got coaches there that are experienced,” McCarthy stated, as quoted by FARPost.
The Bafana Bafana star seems destined for the MLS, which seems to be his dream destination.
